SPECTRUM Physical Therapy and the new Brooks Family YMCA are partnering to provide new opportunities for the Charlottesville Community to reach their health and wellness goals for 2018. Every month, SPECTRUM Physical Therapists will be conducting free injury and wellness screenings at the beautiful new YMCA building in McIntire Park.
Each screening takes about 15 minutes and will be conducted by a licensed and experienced physical therapist. Recommendations for further follow up might include a referral to your primary care doctor or a specialist, physical therapy, or coordination with a qualified YMCA personal trainer to help you get the best outcomes out of your exercise, without injury.

Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer
David Hall holds a BA in Physics, and is a Certified Personal Trainer and Kettlebell Specialist through the NSCA. Introducing people to weight training is fun, but he finds the most joy in functional strength training. Helping an athlete jump higher, an adult to recover from injury or surgery, or a grandmother pick up her child are some of the many reasons he is passionate about personal training at the YMCA. When David is not helping others with their workouts, he is usually focusing on his own fitness. David lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, but spent the previous 10 years in Baltimore, Maryland.
Glenn Luxenberg is a native of Los Angeles, CA, but has lived in Virginia since 1996. His interest and experience in sports and fitness
Personal Trainer & YMCA DPP Lifestyle Coach
Jennifer Reagan is an ACE Certified Exercise Physiologist with a BS in Kinesiology from the University of Tennessee. She is also certified as a Group Exercise instructor and teaches Barre, Pilates, strength training, and Water Aerobics! Jenn recently accepted a position with the YMCA as the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach. Jenn loves helping others reach their goals and change all aspects of their lifestyle to achieve wellness.
Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer
John Williams was raised in Washington D.C., though he now enjoys his life in Charlottesville, specifically Crozet. He is an ACE-certified Personal Trainer and a Wellness Coach for the YMCA but also has several other degrees, including a BA in Special Education. He enjoys working with seniors and is an ACE Senior Fitness Specialist. He truly believes in taking a holistic approach to fitness.
Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, & Enhance Fitness Coach
Kelly Raichel is a joy to have on our team at the YMCA. She has years of experience and she wears many hats, as a Wellness Coach, Certified Personal Trainer, and Group Exercise Instructor. Kelly holds a certification as a Personal Trainer through NASM. She aims to get you stronger, energize your workouts and encourage your success, help you rehabilitate after an injury (shoulders, knee, or hip), push you through training plateaus or boring routines, and tailor your workout to achieve a specific goal. Kelly teaches Step Aerobics, Les Mills BODYPUMP, and Barre.
Ruth Schulman has a MS in Health Promotion Management from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. She is also a Cooper Institute Trained Health Coach, and is a Wellness Coach for the YMCA. Ruth currently works for UVA Population Health as a Wellness Advocate for the Be Well Program, helping to set health and wellness SMART goals for all her UVA participants. Her specialties are program management, project management, In Body Analysis screening and coaching, youth wellness coaching, and wellness event planning. Ruth also loves food, cooking, and photography, good wine, and running. She is currently training for her 4th half marathon in the OBX!
Small Group Trainer
Hunter Post is an Executive Coach for high-potential leaders and entrepreneurs; and the Chief Operating Officer at Bluestone Analytics, a cyber-security & counterintelligence company. He is a former Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), where he was leader of the Special Projects and Emergency Action Response (SPEAR) Team and a federally certified fitness instructor for the agent cadre. He holds a BS in Science & Technology and a Master’s in Strategic Intelligence. Hunter is a mentor at Darden Business School’s Innovation Lab and volunteers regularly in the community. He is from Reston, VA and enjoys outdoor adventures with his wife and two daughters.
Personal Trainer, & Enhance Fitness Coach
Kelly Hughes was born in the flat farmlands of Northwest Ohio where the only thing to do was bicycle. She and her brother rode anywhere and everywhere, sometimes competitively, just to do something! She stepped into her first gym when she was 15 and was fascinated with the machines, weights and classes. That fascination prompted her to learn as much as she could about muscles and movement, earning a variety of personal training and group fitness certifications over the years. She is passionate about sharing my knowledge with people of all ages so they can successfully achieve their health and wellness goals. Kelly is certified in almost anything you can imagine. She is an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer and holds an ISSA certification in Performance Nutrition. She is also certified in NESTA Pilates and Yoga, Silver Sneakers, Zumba, Barre, SCW Water Exercise, many Les Mills formats, and more. I don’t think the Y could stay open without Kelly!
Wellness Coach Lead, Personal Trainer/Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
Kaitlyn Kaczka graduated with a BS in Exercise Science with a minor in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Delaware. She also holds her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. Her specialty is sport performance, strength, special populations, and working with new exercisers. She is passionate and extremely talented in athletic programing. Kaitlyn also helps manage the Wellness Team and our equipment.
Sean Connelly graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Since then he has completed a fellowship in cardiology at William Beaumont hospital, started his own in-home personal training business, opened a cafe and worked as a private chef. He was certified/licensed as a clinical exercise specialist in cardiac rehabilitation, clinical exercise physiologist, strength and conditioning specialist, personal trainer, and aquatic therapist. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and will graduate from Mary Baldwin University in May 2018. He has worked with people of all abilities, from middle/high school and college athletes to people with heart disease, various musculoskeletal and neuromuscular problems, pregnant women and the geriatric population as the aquatic director at Westminster Canterbury. He was a top contender for the Men’s Health top trainer award and teaches 20 different group exercise classes, including the Warrior program at the YMCA. Sean can help you achieve your fitness and wellness goals and reach your true potential.
Travis Hester is a recent Sports Management honor graduate from Rogers State in Oklahoma. Played NCAA basketball with a passion for fitness/wellness. He enjoys weight lifting and conditioning and working with youth. He wants to give back to a YMCA that I have good memories of playing in recreation leagues growing up in Albemarle County.
Swim Coach, Wellness Coach, & Personal Trainer
Ben Nalle is a college graduate who will be finishing his personal training certification with ACE this December. He received his BA in Social Studies from Liberty University in the spring of 2016. Before getting into the wellness field, Ben was a swim coach for a local swim team for 10 years. Ben is an absolute gym addict and also enjoys reading and traveling. He is excited to be involved in this field and will hopefully make a long-lasting career as a fitness professional!
Personal Trainer & Wellness Coach
Members love working with Ginny Thompson, a recently certified Personal Trainer through ACE. She is passionate about strength training with cables and free weights. She has experience in personalizing fitness programs for individuals with special physical needs, including muscle strengthening after knee replacement and hip replacement. She is from Charlottesville, and has three adorable boys!
